The Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art’s galleries offer diverse programming for the Georgia Southern University community and the surrounding region. The Center for Art & Theatre (CAT) features multiple venues to view contemporary and traditional artwork created by students and professional artists. In addition, the CAT showcases two permanent collections – The Betty Foy Sanders Georgia Artists Collection and Smith Callaway Banks Southern Folk Art Collection.

Donated to the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art in 2007 by Statesboro Historian, Smith Callaway Banks, his Southern Folk Art Collection brings a whole new world to campus with its unique and colorful pottery, paintings and artifacts.

Other Collections Include

  • Stephen Bayless, on display in the College of Business Administration, Georgia Southern University
  • Bernie Solomon Student Work, on display in the IT Building, Georgia Southern University

While the Betty Foy Sanders Department of Art displays selections from both the Betty Foy Sanders Georgia Artist Collection and the Smith Callaway Banks Southern Folk Art Collection, there are occasionally objects that are not on view. If you are interested in viewing specific artworks, please contact the Gallery Director to schedule an appointment to look at the object(s). Please note that all requests require a seven-day notice and staff cannot accommodate ‘same day’ requests.
